Wayfinding and Signage Design
Johnson & Wales University’s Providence campus is in the center of downtown in close proximity to restaurants, retail spaces and other businesses. To differentiate it’s academic quad from the cityspace, the university asked SurfaceMatterDesign to develop a signage system that clearly labeled the features of the physical spaces. I developed a series of freestanding and wall mounted signage units. Along with the structural elements, I also redesigned the existing campus map graphic to improve readability and connect to the new visual system.
